The man behind the beard
The pirate look gets attention. The story underneath it is about brotherhood, family, adventure, resilience and the people who have stood beside him.
How “The Pirate” stuck.
Kevin says he has been called Elvis for the sideburns, Jesus for the long hair and The Undertaker for the dark clothes and trench coat. The nickname that lasted came after a Caribbean trip in 2003, when a pirate rum boat became part of an island-hopping adventure.
He says that journey eventually took him through 17 Caribbean islands. One of the bolder memories: jumping from the top mast of the pirate boat into the ocean despite not being especially comfortable in deep water.
Another adventure went in a very different direction — a walk from Bolton, Ontario toward Lexington, Kentucky that Kevin describes as nearly 920 kilometres.
